Let’s talk about your next step ↗02 / THE WAY WE WORK
A way of listening, learning, and acting that puts the person’s voice at the center of support.
We learn what is important to a person—the relationships, interests, and routines that make life meaningful—and what is important for them, including health and safety. Good support considers both.
Ask before helping. Learn how someone prefers to communicate. Notice what is working and what is not. Adjust support with the person instead of assuming we know best.
A planning approach that supports people to explore what matters to them and express their vision for their lives.
Self-advocates are trainers. Staff participate as co-trainers and support partners. Their role is to help the self-advocate lead, communicate, and share their expertise.
People bring expertise from their own lives. When that expertise guides planning and teaching, support can reflect their priorities, strengths, and hopes for the future.
“What matters to you?”
